We docked in the
Conch Republic about
7:30 AM. CARNIVAL
VICTORY was already docked astern of us.
In no hurry
to go ashore before the town got energized, we had a late and leisurely
breakfast.
Once ashore,
we boarded the conch train. Our plan was to ride it for the 90-minute full
circuit, then walk back to anything that caught our interest. We revised the plan, hopping off at the furthest point from the ship. We walked back, sightseeing and shopping
along the way.
We visited
the Harry S. Truman Little
White House where we had an informative tour. I could not take any pictures. It is still available to any current or
former US President. For this reason, the
Secret Service bans photography.
All aboard
VEENDAM was 3:30 PM. Soon thereafter the PA system
started paging a passenger. As the 4:00
PM departure time approached, the paging continued. The ship blew its sea horn. Picture in hand, security officers wandered the decks looking for him. With about three minutes left, the missing
passenger showed up on the dock. He was
whisked aboard, serenaded by much whistling and cheering from his fellow
passengers.
As we sailed
out, we passed USCGC
INGRAHAM, the most decorated vessel in the history of the service. She is now a museum.
It is now time to get the
last of the packing done so that the bags can be in the corridor before we go
to bed.
Tomorrow we
dock in Ft. Lauderdale at 7:00 AM. Our disembarkation
slot is 8:15-9:00 AM.
